Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were among the dignitaries who inaugurated the Kolkata International Film Festival 2017 on Friday. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and stars of the Bengali film industry were also present.
CM Mamta Banerjee said on the occasion of this festival, “The whole world is in Bengal today and we are very proud of this. But I am going to London tonight because I have to go to become part of the 150th birthday celebration of sister Nivedita. This program has already been carried forward because before that I was busy in the Under-17 World Cup. ‘
Amitabh Bachchan asked Mamata Banerjee not to call him to the festival any more. He is the chief guest for the fourth time today and said he was running out of ideas for his introductory speech. However, he spoke emotively today about Bengali cinema’s involvement to music in Indian films.
Shah Rukh Khan beam eight sentences in Bengali to reverberating applause and said he would don a dhoti for the next festival. Kamal Haasan, who many thought may slip in a word about his political plans, spoke briefly on films. Mahesh Bhatt delivered a more political address, saying freedom of speech must be bubble-like.
Thank you Mamataji for inviting me again and again and honouring the best of my cinema family. I feel pride to part of this family. A great example of unity &diversity.
